Betiuc House
In Rediu, a home for the designer’s own family becomes an exercise in restraint: one level, a garden close at hand and architecture organised around everyday life.

A house that leaves room for life.
The starting point for Betiuc House is a simple image: children moving freely, and life indoors extending naturally into the garden. On a site in Rediu, near Iași, the project seeks to hold that sense of freedom within a compact home. Light, quiet and order are the measures against which each plan is considered.
A plan for family life
The brief brings the kitchen, dining and living areas together in a shared space facing the terrace. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms call for a degree of retreat. The plan is studied around these different rhythms: time spent together and each person's need for privacy.
Arranging the house on one level makes its relationship with the outdoors part of the daily routine. Room dimensions, storage and service spaces belong to the same exercise in economy. A compact home depends on this precision to feel generous in use.
Under the same roof
Large windows and deep eaves are considered together. Openness to the garden needs shade, and the roof becomes a way of shaping the threshold between inside and out. The low silhouette keeps the house at a domestic scale.
In the September 2026 elevation study, the terrace sits 45 centimetres below the ground-floor datum. This difference introduces a transition between the house and the terrain. Sections, platforms and landscape levels are developed together so that the connection to the garden is resolved beyond the elevation alone.
A restrained palette, shaped by light
The proposed elevations bring plaster and standing-seam metal together in the same warm white. Dark window frames define the openings, while exposed timber at the roof edges and decking on the terrace introduce another texture. Within this limited palette, the shadow of the eaves and the depth of the windows give the volume definition.
Timber-frame construction is the direction explored in the study. Structural rhythm, wall assemblies and the building envelope are part of the work from the concept stage. For a personal home, long-term comfort and the way the house is built carry as much weight as its first impression.
