Harmony Café
A specialty coffee space with an open kitchen and approximately 28 seats. Within the 77 m² interior, the main public room occupies approximately 39 m².
A threshold for everyday encounters.
Arriving, ordering, finding a seat, staying a little longer: the brief for Harmony Café brings these small moments into focus. The 77-square-metre space includes an open kitchen and a main public room of approximately 39 square metres. The design works with this compact footprint to bring preparation and hospitality into a close relationship.
Making room for a shared experience
The relationship between the coffee bar, open kitchen and seating area guides the plan. With a public room that occupies only part of the overall interior, circulation and the placement of furniture carry particular weight. The brief calls for a café in which service and the experience of sitting down are considered together.
The open kitchen places food preparation within the life of the space. Coffee, food and conversation form the programme around which the interior is developed.
The entrance as part of the room
The canopy study extends this attention to the threshold. A light-coloured metal structure sits against the existing façade, with a thin steel roof and spherical lighting. Beige ceramic paving and carefully resolved step edges give the approach its own material character.
The work studies the junction between canopy and façade, as well as the way the paving, steps and surrounding boundary meet. These elements are close to the visitor: they frame the short transition from the street to the café.
A design developed through details
The entrance has been explored through alternative visual studies and technical details. Its identity is sought in the proportions of the metalwork, the light beneath the canopy and the texture of the ground. The images shown here belong to that design process.
